Density: 530kg/m3

Description: The sapwood is generally narrow, and lighter in colour from the heartwood which varies from a decided yellow tinge to a reddish-brown colour. Although there is sometimes a tendency for wavy or spiral grain to be present, the wood is generally straight grained.
Working Properties: Works readily and fairly easily but with a slight dulling effect on cutting edges. Care needs to be taken to obtain a good finish.
Physical Properties: A very strong wood in relation to its weight. Timber from the pacific coastal areas is heavier, harder and generally stronger than from the mountain areas.
Durability: Moderately durable
Main Uses: Heavy construction, railway sleepers, joinery, flooring and general house construction.
