The sapwood is very narrow and white in colour, sharply
demarcated from the heartwood which varies in colour from orange-brown to
dark purplish brown.
Working Properties:
A moderately difficult timber to work and machine
depending greatly on the type of grain present. Takes stain satisfactorily
and a high polish. It is a good turnery wood.
Physical Properties:
It is a hard, relatively
heavy softwood. Dries fairly rapidly and well. Often only available in
small sizes.
Durability:
Durable.
Main Uses:
Decorative work, restricted only in the size
available, and veneers.
