The beauty of working with timber is that each species - and each piece - is individual.

Every variety of hardwood and softwood has its own unique characteristics - its own specific colouring, texture, grade and strength - making different timbers ideal for different tasks.

In order to help you make an informed choice about the type of wood you would like to use, we have developed an impartial guide to some of the different types you might like to use.

We hope this guide offers you an insight into various timber species, although it is by no means exhaustive and does not reflect what we currently have in stock. As wood is a natural product its colouring and texture can vary slightly with every batch that is cut, so please treat the photographs below as no more than a guide to each species.
